Granger Ready To Take On PPP
Newly elected Presidential Candidate for the People’s National Congress retired Brigadier David Granger appears all set and ready to take on the ruling Peoples Progressive Party at the next elections. A united Peoples National Congress Granger believes could get the job done and he is placing his bets on the party not only attracting new support but bringing back those who may have drifted.. He makes it clear that it will not be a one man show but he is confident that he could easily take on and win against any of the candidates that the PPP may put up.
At age 65 Granger does not believe his age will be an issue since he intends to surround himself with a much younger cabinet.
The PPP’s Cheddi Jagan became President of Guyana at age 74 in 1992 and his wife became President at age 77 in 1997. Granger said he is looking ahead and what Guyana really needs in a new government is leadership and he believes he could provide that.
At Saturday’s special congress David Granger got ahead of his 4 competitors capturing 274 votes. All of the candidates have accepted the results and the party is already looking at strengthening its leadership in the run up to the elections. Special conventions are expected for the women’s arm and youth arm of the party soon.
