GUYSUCO Trying To Be Productive Despite Challenges
The Guyana Sugar Corporation is reporting that to date 30 thousand tonnes of sugar have been produced for the first crop by the industry. GuySuCo had started the crop early January rather than the traditional period in February.
The sugar corporation in a press statement stated that despite the challenges posed by the significant levels of rainfall recorded at the various estates over the last few weeks it remains committed to continue its production drive.
GuySuCo said it is grateful for the contribution of the labour force and would want to encourage workers to continue playing their part to ensure that 2011 is the year when the sugar industry realizes it’s potential once again.
The sugar company has also recognized the support received from the many stakeholders especially the worker’s unions in understanding the critical importance of achieving the production targets. It is believed that once GuySuCo achieves its targets during this year workers could see an increase in wages and salaries.
