Funeral Arrangements For Former First Lady Joyce Hoyte
Former First Lady Joyce Hoyte will be laid to rest tomorrow Friday February 18th . The Funeral will take place at St. Andrew’s Kirk on Avenue of the Republic and Brickdam. Viewing of the body and tributes will be from two o’clock The Guyana Government Representative and Dr Faith Harding representing the PNC will pay tribute to the widow of Former President Desmond Hoyte. Hoyte’s former Finance Minister Carl Greenidge will deliver the eulogy.
A private viewing for Mrs Hoyte’s family will take place at the funeral home.
Joyce Hoyte nee Defrietas served as First Lady of Guyana from 1985 to 1992 and kept up to date with developments in the country when her husband became opposition leader for over a decade.
She survived a tragic accident that resulted in the death of her two daughters Amanda and Maxine, her sister Gwen and the chauffeur in 1985. The former first Lady spent several months in rehabilitation following treatment in Cuba.
Joyce Hoyte was described by President Jagdeo and several former ministers in the PNC government as dignified, gracious and resilient. Capitol News understands that a special Trust may be set up to preserve the Presidential Papers of her late Husband who predeceased her in 2002.
Mrs Hoyte died in Georgetown on February 14 2011 following a brief illness.
