Guyana Labour Union President Coming Under Criticism By Fellow Trade Unionists
Some veteran trade unionists are coming out against one of their own who they believe has not been looking into the best interest of workers he represents and the trade union movement on a whole. Trade Unionists Lincoln Lewis and Norris Witter, launched a picket outside the Guyana Labour Union this afternoon, complaining about that union’s president Carville Duncan. At issue is the Linden electricity company and the workers efforts to have the Guyana bauxite and General Workers union represent them.
Lewis pointed to several other cases when he believes Duncan has been working against workers and not looking into their best interest.
Efforts to get a comment from the GLU head proved unsuccessful. Lewis said while he is not calling for Duncan to step down, he wants the workers who fall under the union to take a good look at how Duncan has been looking into their interests and judge him on that.
