Preparations For Mash
Designers are busy around this time of the year trying to meet their client’s order of costumes before the February 23 Mashramani celebrations. One such designer is Jermaine Broomes. He has since erected a camp under his South Ruimveldt home trying to meet those orders.
Broomes said Mashramani gives him a chance to bring his ideas to life. The designer said he has since completed most of his orders for five schools and the finishing touch is left to be done and preparation for the large band will begin on Monday.
The designer notes that most of his materials are sourced overseas since the quantity and quality are much better compared to what’s available here.
The husband and father said he enjoys what he does and believes in passing on his knowledge. He noted that all of his creations have placed first or second in the schools competitions.
Currently the designer is working with four persons at his camp and said during next week the numbers will increase since 500 costumes will have to be made and more help and hours of work will be needed.
