PPP Still To Decide How To Go About Choosing The Presidential Candidate
Guyana’s ruling party, the PPP is still to come to a final agreement on just how the members of the party’s two leadership committees will decide on who takes the reigns as the Presidential candidate. One member of Parliament for the PPP who sits on one of the committees told capitol news that no decision has been made and it is not quite clear when a decision will be made although the party has stated that it will choose a presidential candidate before the end of April.
Reports reaching this newscast state that a decision could be made before the middle of this month since some party members have been pressing for the situation to be dealt with and for the campaigning to begin.
5 senior party members have been nominated to vie for the top spot and while they have not been doing much campaigning on their own, some have been meeting with other members of the two committees to enlist their support whenever the voting time comes.
President Jagdeo who is barred from seeking a third term wants the voting to be done by show of hands, while some other members of the party continue to push for a secret ballot.
