Well the real story for the new Junior Calypso Monarch Diana Chapman is that by capturing that crown she has earned a spot in the finals of the National Calypso Competition where she will come up against the more senior and seasoned calypsonians in the country. This is the first time that the junior monarch will enjoy automatic entry into the senior finals and music producers are pleased with the move. Diana’s winning piece bring back bearer nancy highlighted Guyana in the past and in the present.
Music Producer and calypso enthusiast Sean Bhola said it’s a move that could do well for the industry.

The Junior calypso finals took place Linden over the weekend and brought out an impressive line up of well written and well put together calypso pieces. Issues covered ranged from domestic violence to all the maternal deaths that have been haunting this land.

This year’s junior calypso monarch provided the high quality of calypso songs that are desperately needed for the senior competition. The national competition kicks off on the 12th February at Bartica.
