Government Threatens To Seize Forestry Concessions
Government is now threatening to seize forestry concessions for several large operators. Agriculture Minister Robert Persaud believes such holders are not utilizing the forests since there is a peak in demand but a drop in supply.
Persaud stated the annual records have shown that some operators are not able to achieve the 60 percent bench mark which is required once given concession.
Persaud indicated that while he is encouraging operators to up production it will in no way have a negative effect on the forestry sector.
The Agriculture Ministry hopes that it can work with the forest operators to ensure that they can overcome the challenges that maybe affecting them from cutting more logs.
