Residents of communities close to the Mandela dump site are hoping that the Environmental Protection Agency would step in and assist with the decommissioning of the site. On Monday the agency’s Executive Director was presented with a petition of over 500 signatures. The residents have signaled their intention to support the agency in ensuring that the dump site is properly closed off.

The group of concerned citizens has sought legal advice from Attorney at law, Christopher Ram who said the residents have suffered long enough.

The EPA’s Executive Director assured the group that the petition will be forwarded to the board at its next meeting which is slated for early in the new month.

Residents are hoping to breathe a sigh of relief as operations at the current dump site come to an end.
