PPP Unsure as to How to Pick Presidential Candidate
The ruling People’s Progressive Party has still not yet decided in just how the voting will take place that will choose the party’s Presidential Candidate. 35 members of the party’s central and executive committees including the 5 nominees will decide who leads the party into the next elections.
Members of the two committees are split about how the vote should actually be done, whether by secret ballot or a show of hands. At least one of the nominees has been pushing for secret ballot and he has been picking up support from a number of senior party executives. However President Jagdeo who also sits on the central committee believes it should go the way of show of hands.
A senior party member said the President is wrong and needs to understand the importance of secret ballot. The member believes it is the best way to go.
The 5 candidates vying for top post are expected to appear before the other members of the committees and sell their policies and vision.
Capitol news understands that some of the nominees have already been meeting privately with some members and selling their case. The PPP has stated that it will choose the presidential candidate before the end of April.
