2011 Budget deemed A Good One Especially For Tourism Sector – Prashad
As the budget debate continues in the national assembly, government members have been wasting no time in defending the 2011 budget which they say holds a bright future for the country, despite what the opposition members may think.
Tourism Minister Manniram Prashad in his presentation last evening pointed out that the budget is a people budget and one that will ultimately boost investments and create more jobs.
Pointing to the tourism sector, The minister was quick to point out that the sector now has the ability to transform the economy into a world class destination since the administration has been placing major focus on the country’s tourism product over the years. He said this focus will not change in 2011.
Prashad also told the house that the year 2010 has seen some robust changes in the sector such as increased visitor arrivals to the country, heightened destination awareness and increased focus on quality services.
In 2011, government has allocated over $150 million for the continued expansion of the tourism sector as it seeks to get more visitors to come to Guyana.
