PPP In Uproar While Teixeira Enters Race For Presidential Candidate

[bitsontherun yxehl2QX]

As the PPP gets ready for its election of a Presidential candidate, party top brass are trading barbs over the secret ballot issue. President Bharrat Jagdeo in response to criticism leveled against him by PPP executive Navin Chandarpal has come out swinging and appears to be leaving no stone unturned to deal with his party comrade especially since Chandarpal compared him to late president Forbes Burnham.
The President told the internet news site Demerarawaves.com that the former government minister and presidential advisor Navin Chandarapal sat in the cabinet, enjoyed the benefits and did absolutely no work except going to the rum-shops and talking about party business, not only party business but also government business. President Jagdeo also said he fired Chandarpal for non performance.
The president in vintage Jagdeo style said Chandarpal was fired because of a lack of performance adding that In the several years that he was at Office of the President, he never completed a single assignment for him. He also accused Chandarpal of being vindictive and bitter.
Well Chandarpal appears not to be prepared to be railroaded by the president and today sent out a 2 page statement firing off even more barbs at Jagdeo saying that he will ignore most of what the President said since he is not accustomed to gutter politics. He said he is not bothered about the president’s excuse about non-performance while he worked for government since those involved in the areas of environmental and natural resources management know better. He believes he was fired for speaking up against officials saying that It seems as though his “non-performance” has been speaking up in the internal forums when he did not agree with the views and actions of others regardless of their official status.

On the president calling him bitter and vindictive the former advisor to the president said The vindictive part has to be an attempt at a joke since every Guyanese know who is the most vindictive of all.
And he also challenged the president’s statements that he Chandarpal was always in rum shops discussing party and government business. Chandarpal said like most Guyanese he socializes in public places with friends and enjoy running into old friends and acquaintances of all walks of life. He said he does not hide and has nothing to hide. But maybe, in this new period of Exquisite Hangouts for the more financially endowed, the status of the places where everyone else hangs out have been downgraded to Rum shops. He said he prefers to be surrounded by the average Guyanese than the new elites.
The forward and backward spat between the two PPP executives, the president and his former advisor came about following the president’s statement that secret balloting to choose a presidential candidate for the party could result in bribes, and nominees promising kickbacks once they get into office in exchange for votes.
Chandarpal who is one of the 35 members of party’s committees that will make the decision took offence at the president’s statements saying it questions the integrity of the members of the two decision bodies of the PPP.
Speaker of the National Assembly Ralph Ramkarran who is in the running to be the Presidential Candidate also took offence at the President’s remarks. Meanwhile the field of candidates vying for the PPP Presidential spot is getting is widening. Today the party announced that longtime party member and former minister, current Presidential Advisor Gail Teixeira is now in the running to be the party’s presidential candidate. Teixeira’s addition brings to 5, the number of persons wanting the top post in the ruling party. She is the only woman in the race and political watchers say the move now by Teixeira could be that would set her up for the prime ministerial candidate position if she fails to get the party’s nod. Teixeira is believed to be one of the most influential members of the party’s top brass and is known for her no nonsense approach. She is expected to tout her experience at just about every level of the government and the party.
Some political watchers question the timing of the party’s announcement that Teixeira has entered the race saying it may been done now to take away all the attention being paid to the current disagreement between the President and other party executives over how the party should choose its candidate. Teixeira is the current Presidential Advisor on Governance and also served previously as minister of health, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Home Affairs.

Virtually all of the things you articulate is supprisingly legitimate and it makes me ponder why I hadn’t looked at this with this light before. Your piece truly did turn the light on for me personally as far as this particular topic goes. However there is actually one particular position I am not too comfortable with so while I attempt to reconcile that with the central idea of the issue, allow me observe what all the rest of your readers have to say.Well done.
