More Money To Be Invested In Sugar This Year Despite Huge Losses Last Year
The government is hoping that the industry is somehow able to rebound after one of its most disappointing years in history.
More money will be pumped into the sugar industry this year although it recorded huge losses last year, and though he sits on the government side in the national assembly, the president of the union that represents most of the sugar workers believe some areas were over looked in the budget.
The Skeldon sugar factory continues to be dogged by problems with no sure date of an end to those problems. However, experts are being brought in to see how best they could get the multi million us dollar facility up and running.
GAWU’s president said the management problems ought to have been given much more attention since the union believes it is one of greatest setbacks facing the industry.
A few years back when government put in new board in place at GuySuCo with the hope of ensuring a full turnaround of the industry, it may not have been prepared for the turnaround taking place in the fields, disgruntled workers who stayed away.
