Is Ramotar Being Groomed TO Become PPP’s Presidential Candidate?
The General Secretary of the PPP Donald Ramotar is currently out of the country accompanying President Bharrat Jagdeo on yet another official overseas visit. Ramotar has been on a number of other high profile visits with the President in the past months leaving some political watchers and even party insiders to wonder if it is that he is being groomed by the President.
Ramotar is one of the senior party members hoping to be the Presidential Candidate for the next elections. He has been holding the General Secretary position for over a decade and is regarded as the leader of the party. He has never held any cabinet post but is a member of parliament. Cabinet Secretary Dr Roger Luncheon tried to explain the importance of Ramotar, a party head accompanying the president on official visits although he is not a GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL.
A few months back, I asked Ramotar whether he was really being groomed to take over the Presidency, his answer was similar to that of Luncheon’s.
The PPP is expected to pick its presidential candidate early next year.
