Government Of Guyana Voices Concerns To CARICOM About Statements Made By Carl Greenidge
The government of Guyana has registered its concern to CARICOM about recent statements made by CARICOM’s Senior Director at its office for Trade Negotiations Carl Greenidge.
Greenidge is a former Guyana Minister of Finance under the Desmond Hoyte administration. The government is apparently upset over statements made by Greenidge at the Funeral of former Opposition Member of Parliament Winston Murray a few weeks back. At the funeral, in paying tribute to the work Murray did as a trade minister in the PNC government, Grenidge pointed out that he shared Murray’s vision that Guyana could see an improvement in the standard of living. He said “Guyana can, and with visionary leadership, be lifted from the nightmare in which it finds itself.” That statement may have riled the government and cabinet not only discussed it recently but also alerted the CARICOM secretariat
And just recently Carl Greendidge who is based in Barbados was nominated by a number of PNC groups to join the line up of persons seeking the PNC’s presidential candidate post. Political watchers say that turn of events may be of more concern to the government rather than the statements made at a funeral.
