Salvation Army Starts its Annual Christmas Hamper Distribution
The Guyana Salvation Army as part of its charitable mission on Wednesday commenced its annual Christmas hampers distribution. The hampers is one way the Salvation Army aims to lend a helping hand to the less fortunate in society. Over 700 citizens were presented with Christmas hampers at the Citadel Headquarters. Several persons said they were grateful for the hamper since it helps them in their time of need.
Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh who was given the honor of presenting the first Christmas hamper commended the Salvation Army for its commitment towards helping the less fortunate. Singh said persons should not forget the true meaning of Christmas which is demonstrated by the Salvation Army as it is the season of giving.
Meanwhile, the Divisional Commander said the annual activity is made possible through generous donations to the many kettles that are throughout the city. The hampers were made up of basic food items.
Other branches of the Salvation Army throughout the country will conduct a similar exercise as the charitable organization strives to bring Christmas cheer to the needy.
