Kadir Sentenced To Life In Prison For JFK Terror Plot
Former Member of Parliament and former Linden Mayor Abdul Kadir was today sentenced to life in prison for his role in that JFK terror plot that he was found guilty of a few months back. Judge Dora Irizarry handed down the maximum sentence to Kadir today in the brooklyn federal courthouse.
The 59 year old Kadir through his attorney had already indicated that he intends to appeal the verdict of the case. Before the judge handed down the sentence today, Kadir told the court that he may have acted foolishly and said some things that definitely were wrong But contended that at no time did he ever join in consciously, and have any desire to be part of, a plot that would have destroyed people and properties of the united states.
The judge told Kadir that the crime was as serious as they come just short of murder. Had Kadir pleaded guilty to the terror plot charges he would have gotten 15 years in prison as part of a plea deal but he opted to go to trial and testify.
During that trial, the US painted Kadir as a radical muslim who wanted to create destruction at the JFK airport. The US used the services of a known drug convict as an informant in the case. The other Guyanese who was found guilty Russell Defreitas is to be sentenced next month. And the one who took the plea deal and opted for the 15 year Jail Sentence Abdel Nur is still to be officially sentenced. He was recently diagnosed with lung cancer and is currently receiving treatment.
Abdul Kadir has always maintained his innocence. He was on his way to Iran for an Islamic conference when he was hauled off an aircraft in Trinidad and eventually extradited to the United States. It’s unclear when his attorneys will begin the appeal process.
