Ministry Of Health Encouraging People To Donate Blood
Persons are being encouraged once again to give blood and give life especially during this season. The Health Ministry is reporting that approximately one thousand units of blood is needed as the demand usually tends to decrease during the month of December.
Health Minister, Dr Leslie Ramsammy during a press briefing noted that traditionally the month of December is the lowest for blood collection. He attributed this decline to volunteers taking a break from donating blood.
According to Ramsammy as persons take a break from donating blood the heath sector is forced to manage with only 50 percent of the amount need on a monthly basis as the demand is usually high.
The health ministry has also set a target of 10 thousand units of blood to be collected next year. In order for the ministry to achieve the target it has already organized 22 blood drives and hopes other organizations and volunteers would join the ministry in organizing an additional 30.
