The Guyana Water Incorporate will be moving to the courts as it aims to have delinquent customers pay off their outstanding arrears. GWI has recorded some 10 million dollars is yet to be collected from such individuals. The Company has since commenced a countrywide disconnection campaign.
Corporate Service, Director Nigel Niles stated that customers will have to face the penalties since they have been failing to clear their accounts even though the company has been offering a payment plan.
Niles has admitted that the court system maybe slow but the company has no other alternative since customer’s especially in Georgetown continues to deprive the utility company of payments for water service.
The water company has since dispatched warning letters to over 60 customers in Georgetown primarily Festival City, North and South Ruimveldt. During last October and November the company conducted a similar exercise on the West Coast of Demerara with actions being filed in both the Magistrate and High Courts.
