Goodbye Immigration Stamps, Hello CARIPASS
The Caribbean community CARICOM is getting ready to roll out what it calls the world’s first automated multi state travel document, the CARIPASS.
CARIPASS will be used in 10 CARICOM states including Guyana and will allow its holders easier access through immigration in the states that have signed on.
According to CARICOM, the card which will the size of a credit card will allow CARICOM citizens and legal residents to access a safe and secure automated self processing gate within selected airports. The regional body explains that cardholders will benefit from the ease of expedited processing through immigration checkpoints when using CARIPASS.
With CARIPASS travelers would not need to carry a passport when travelling to the participating countries, however you are still encouraged to walk with your passport even if you will not be using it.
According to the CARIPASS website The CARIPASS lets you avoid the long lines and automatically records your entry or exit at the self-service CARIPASS gate. It says you can Say goodbye to stamps in your passport, and hello to the CARIPASS receipt which gives you all the information you would normally find on your immigration stamp.
