500 Students Receive Certificates For Completion Of Secondary Competency Certificate Programme
The Education Ministry on Tuesday presented over 500 students with certificates of completion for the Secondary Competency Certificate Programme. The Programme is designed to improve student’s attendance while enhancing their ability in the area of technical and vocational education at grades 9 and 10.
Subject Minister, Sheik Baksh is hoping to expand the programme to seventy schools by 2013. Baksh believes the programme has been successful in keeping students in the classrooms and preparing them for the world of work. The Education Ministry has recorded a decline in students drop out rate in those grades.
The Secondary Competency Certificate Programme, Coordinator, Aubrey Overton spoke of the benefits student could derive from the programme.
This is the first batch of students to complete the Secondary Competency Certificate Programme and Charity Secondary School produced the two best graduating students. The programme commenced last year September in 17 schools and concluded October 30. Teachers were also trained on the implementation process of the programme.
