A Call To Unite In The Fight Against Domestic Violence
International day for the Elimination of domestic violence was observed as several organizations tried to help raise awareness of domestic violence among citizens. A rally was held at the Bourda Cricket Ground as this year is marks the tenth observance.
Organizer, Varshnie Singh said while more needs to be done in addressing this social ill the only way forward is for community members to unite.
Sing noted that the response by the public has been overwhelming. She pointed out that work also needs to be done with perpetrators since they too would have been affected in some way which led to them continuing the cycle of Domestic Violence.
Several nongovernmental organizations that have been playing their bit in educating the public about domestic violence were pleased to be part of the rally as they all try to achieve the same goal.
Domestic Violence continues to affect many families and more so women. For this year several women have lost their lives as a result of domestic violence. Government has put stiffer laws in place to deal with domestic violence.
