Record Number Of Fires For This Year
Guyana has recorded a record number of fires for this year. So far, there have been over 1600 devastating fires across the country. Fires that have shattered lives and destroyed homes.
The Guyana Fire Service has expressed concern over the high number of fires which seems to be occurring every week. Fire Chief Marlon Gentle said citizens have to be more aware of the dangers of fires since it can easily be started in the home.
The fire chief highlighted that household fires has made a drastic increase compared to that of last year during this same period.
The Fire service is urging citizens to help prevent fires by paying more attention to their surroundings. Over four hundred and fifteen persons have been affected as a result of their homes being destroyed by fire which is an increase compared to last year. Many of the fires are believed to have been electrical in origin.
