28 Year Old Woman Another Victim Of Domestic Violence
Domestic Violence continues to be a major problem within society as women are brutally beaten and murdered. But there are survivors. Twenty eight year old, Tiffiney Jackson, a trainee teacher and mother of 1 is grateful for life. The young woman has managed to walk away from her abuser but that decision came a bit too late for her.
Tiffany is partly blind in the right eye after she sustained a blow to her head with a glass bottle. A blow dealt to her by the father of her child, a man she shared a home with.
She claimed the man was verbally abusive towards her for a number of years but she did not believe it would have gotten physical.
The woman also recalled a look of satisfaction on the face of her abuser. She was hospitalized for a few weeks with scars that will remain for life. Ashamed of the abuse scars to her face, tiffany uses her long hair to hide it, and sunglasses to cover her eyes.
Jackson sought the help of the ministry of human services where she was given counseling and guidance in dealing with the matter but her perpetrator remains at large since he went on the run after committing the act. Prior to the incident several reports were made to the Police about the verbal abuse but much attention was not paid to the woman’s cry.
But all is not lost for Jackson and she could regain sight in the damaged eye. She was advised that a surgery is needed since her eyes cannot take the bright lights which has made her somewhat helpless and forced to take a break from her studies. The Ministry of Health has offered to help with the surgery which has to be done in Trinidad and Tobago.
The mother of one is hoping that her story will empower other women who maybe in an abusive relationship to seek help and speak out. Guyana will join the rest of the world on November, 25 in observing international Day for the Elimination of Domestic Violence against women.
