Domestic Violence Rally To Raise Awareness
A political entity calling its self Guyana’s People Partnership party is now joining the fight to help raise awareness against domestic violence. A rally is slated for next week Thursday which is being organized by a group of women from various nongovernmental organizations as they seek to highlight this social ill. The Guyana Police force has since recorded over two thousand domestic violence cases from various divisions throughout the country.
Party Member, Sarika Budhram said the initiative is one that is welcomed since it is long overdue and society needs to share the blame for tolerating such behavior which has now lead to the high number of such cases.
The party member is also encouraging citizens to support the rally as more work is still to be done in bringing an end to domestic violence.
The rally will be held under the theme “Break the Silence, Stop the Violence”, at the Bourda Cricket Ground. It will also coincide with this year’s observance of International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women.
