Ethnic Relations Commission To Intensify Their Elections Monitoring Program
As the election period draws closer, plans are being put in place by the Ethnic Relations Commission to intensify their elections monitoring program, for the upcoming 2011 elections. This was the word given today by head of the commission, Juan Edghill.
According to Edghill, the monitoring program that was in place last elections was successful and this one will be even better. He said that all the activities that will be done throughout the elections period will be monitored by reporters hired by the commission. According to the commission, there are major consequences attached to a person or a party using race to persuade persons to vote for them.
The commission said that the last election was a peaceful one and it hopes that it will be the same this time around. Media operatives are being praised as doing a commendable job in the last general elections and it is expected that they will continue to do so.
In addition to the monitoring program set in place by the commission, peace messages will also be distributed throughout the election period.
