Remembrance Day Observed Over The Weekend
On Sunday respect was paid to those who served and died in World Wars I and II. A symbolic wreath lying ceremony was held as Guyana joined the world in remembering those soldiers that died during the war period.
The event started with the arrival of the Prime Minister and President Bharrat Jagdeo. During the ceremony, two minutes of Silence was offered one each for those killed during the wars respectively.
President Jagdeo during his address to the gathering noted the strides made by the men and women who sacrificed their lives in the name of peace and freedom for their country.
The first wreath was placed by President Jagdeo who was followed by the Prime Minister, Head of the army and police, Opposition Leader and Mayor of Georgetown as well as Members of the Diplomatic Corps.
