Power Surge Blamed For GPL Blaze
A power surge is being blamed for a late afternoon fire in the Werk-en-rust area which completely gutted a house, leaving over 7 persons homeless. Residents in the area said the fire was noticed at the 61 Bent Street house just after power was restored to the area this afternoon. The Williams family lived in the house. They were in tears and in shock as they saw what was left of their home.
According to residents the power supply to the area was on and off all day. GPL they believe has to take the blame.
Quick action by the Guyana Fire service averted major damage to the nearby houses which were scorched but not too badly damaged. Neighbours said they are thankful.
Losses are estimated in the millions and it’s a sad start to the Christmas season for the Williams family.
