Artistic Association Calling For Greater Recognition
As the Guyana women’s art association is celebrating another year of artistic achievement, greater recognition is being called for artists in Guyana by the members of the association.
According to committee member of the association, Anna Correia, in an effort to encourage artists and boost the display of talent in Guyana, much work has been done in various schools in and around Georgetown and plans for much more is underway.
At the National Library’s gallery there are numerous displays of art in the form of paintings, drawings, tiles and ceramics, clothing and other fabric pieces. The women’s art association has had, according to MS. Correia, several exhibitions outside of Guyana where the pieces were well received and recognition was gained. Several women are also being honored by the organization’s executive arm for their dedicated service to and activism in the association.
The organization is working towards furthering the reach of art produced by women in Guyana. The association which had its first exhibition in 1988 is currently celebrating its twenty second annual exhibition. The exhibition will run until November 15 during normal working hours at the National Library’s Gallery.
