Two Families Homeless After Fire

Two families are now homeless following a fire on Tuesday night at Joseph Pollydore Street, Lodge. It is believed that the fire was a deliberate attempt as occupants could recall someone in the yard minutes before the fire begun.

The two story house was divided into three apartments but only the bottom flat was being occupied since it was divided into two halves.

One of the tenants who has now been displaced was only living at the house for 7 months.

Another tenant Onicka Prince who occupied the other half said she was asleep when the alarm was raised. She lost everything.

Already some persons suspect arson, although a reason is unknown. Eyewitnesses recalled seeing some young men in the area acting suspiciously just before the incident. When the fire began the young men made their escape through a nearby yard.

Residents in the area said they are pleased with the Guyana fire service’s response since nearby buildings were spared.
