Guyana Defense Force Celebrates Its 45th Anniversary
The Guyana Defense Force is celebrating its 45th Anniversary all week and the army is looking at ways to better serve and protect the nation. Already the GDF has started another recruitment drive and has begun publishing those who have applied to serve, hoping to weed out anyone who may not be the best representative of the army.
Earlier this week at the start of the 45th anniversary celebrations, the top brass of the army and other soldiers gathered at the national cultural centre along with special invitees for a church service and they were told by Rev. Adolph Davis of the Friendship Methodist Church that it’s time to rebuild Guyana.
Rev Davis told the soldiers that they cannot turn a blind eye to the injustices happening around them. Guyana he said has lost its fear of God and that’s troubling.
It was significant that the army chose a preacher from the Friendship community to deliver the message at its church service. A few years back the army spent months in the same community in efforts to rid it of criminal elements. He told the gathering that in Guyana today it is frightening that dishonesty appears to have become a part of the institution.
The GDF has several other programmes planned as part of its anniversary celebrations.
