David Thompson Laid to Rest

The small island nation of Barbados was in a solemn mood today as Barbadians said one final Goodbye to their late Prime Minister David Thompson. Thompson passed away 2 Saturdays ago after a short battle with cancer. Guyana’s President Bharrat Jagdeo and Opposition Leader Robert Corbin were among the foreign dignitaries gathered at the State Funeral today of the man who became Prime Minister just over 2 years ago after rallying his Democratic Labour Party to government. He spent over a decade in the opposition.

Late Prime Minister Thompson was remembered today as a simple and humble man. A man of the people who never lost touch with the people he represented. His Eulogy was read in two parts by two of his closest friends Government Advisor Hartley Henry and school friend Brian Clarke.

The Barbadian Police Band and a Choir sang lustfully hymns that were loved by the late leader.

Caricom tribute was made by current Chairman of Caricom, Jamaican Prime Minister Bruce Golding who reflected on the Prime Minister’s work at the regional level and his commitment to the people of Barbados.

Prime Minister David Thompson who’s grandfather was Guyanese enjoyed the culture of the Caribbean and always celebrated it. Barbadian music star Rihanna, Jamaican reggae star Luciano and Cricket Great Brian Lara joined Caricom leaders and Barbadians in celebrating the life of the late Prime Minister who they fondly called just David.
