Charles Town Chopping Leaves 2 Dead And 2 Injured
A 53 year old man who is believed to be of unsound mind remains in police custody after he went berserk this morning in the Charlestown community, arming himself with a cutlass and leaving a bloody rampage behind. The man chopped two persons to death and injured two others before turning himself over to the police
Dead are Ann Chan-a-Koon of Russel Street and Frederick Blackman of the same area. Two other persons Sean De Souza and Rajesh Persaud were admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital with chop wounds about their bodies.
Several persons witnessed the mid morning carnage. The man began his rampage in this house where he first attacked 70 year old Frederick Blackman. Ann Chan a Koon who lived nearby was on her way to see what all the commotion was about when the man turned his wrath on her, slashing the woman across the neck. Relatives said it was just recently that the woman returned to Guyana with her two children to live.
The assailant has been identified as Gregory Williams. Other eye witnesses said Williams does odd jobs around the area. The double murder has shocked Charlestown residents who said only this morning the man was seen having a conversation with one of his victims just before the killings began.
Murder charges are likely before the end of the week. Residents say they are grateful that the rampage did not continue and are happy that the police responded quickly and was able to apprehend the man at the scene.
