Guyana Teachers Union To Submit New Proposal for Better Benefits In 2011
The Guyana Teachers Union has reported that a proposal will soon be submitted to the Education Ministry before the year is out which will address teacher’s salary and other benefits for 2011 as the current contract with the union comes to an end December 2010.
General Secretary, Coretta McDonald said once teachers are treated differently persons will be motivated to stay in the teaching profession. Over the years there have been a significant number of senior teachers leaving the country as they seek better paying in jobs in other countries.
The General Secretary said she hopes the education ministry would work together with the union in an effort to put systems in place to keep teachers from leaving.
