Forestry Commission to Make Changes To The Code of Practice For Timber Harvesting

 

 

The Guyana Forestry Commission held the first in a series of consultations with loggers, community representatives, exporters other timber dealers as the commission seeks to make changes to the Code of Practice for Timber Harvesting. Agriculture Minister with responsibility for Forestry, Robert Persaud noted that there has been an increase use of non timber produce compared to that of last year.

The Agriculture Minister said the code of practice will not restrict stakeholders from developing the industry but ensuring it is done in a more sustainable manner. Several other consultations are to be conducted with stakeholders to revise in an effort to produce guide lines for Non Timber Forest Products.
