Soldiers at Ayanganna and Tacama Undergoing Tuberculosis Testing

Several Soldiers based at Camp Ayanganna and Tacama in the interior are being screened and tested for Tuberculosis, the move by the Guyana Defense Force comes in wake of 2 ranks being tested positive for the infectious disease. The two soldiers were based at Tacama and Ayanganna and that’s the reason why soldiers who may have come into contact with them are being tested and screened.

A senior GDF officer told Capitol News that out of an abundance of caution the GDF thought it best to do widespread testing and screening to monitor those who may have come into contact with the two affected soldiers.

Though Tuberculosis is a common disease it could prove deadly if not tackled in the early stages. It usually attacks the lungs but could affect other parts of the body. Medical sources it is spread through the air when people who have the disease cough, sneeze, or spit.
