Saturday Night Murder Potentially Drug Related
By: Gordon Moseley
A senior police source has indicated that Saturday night’s brutal slaying of 5 persons including a 4 year old boy may have been drug related. The police official said at least two of the men killed were known to the police as having connections to the drug underworld. He said the force was still looking at other angles since it had no clear indication of the actual motive behind the slaying.
A 4 year old boy who would have celebrated his first day at school today was shot dead in the arms of his young mother Fiona Singh as they sat in a car being driven by his father Steve Jupiter who was killed on the spot. The boy’s mother Fiona succumbed to her injuries on Sunday at the Georgetown hospital. Two other persons who were in the car were killed on the spot.
The execution style killing of the 5 persons has all the makings of a deal gone sour or a revenge shooting according to an investigator close to the case.
Eyewitnesses have said that the car carrying the toddler, his parents and their friends had just pulled out of a street in Cummings Lodge where the mother had taken the child to visit relatives when two cars pulled up alongside, heavily armed gun men exited and opened a volley of gunfire on the car.
The 4 year old was shot 4 times about his body, his father who was driving received several more gunshot wounds, the father’s two friends who were also in the car were also riddled with bullets as well as the boy’s young mother.
The woman who was conscious just after the shooting managed to call her relatives to say that they had come under attack.
At the Georgetown hospital when the bodies were taken there, Relatives would offer no comment but cried uncontrollably. The police moved quickly to set up road blocks all across the Capital Saturday night but were unable to track down the gunmen.
Though official police statistics have shown a decrease in gun crimes in the country, there has been an increase in drive by shootings, that appear to be well planned executions. All of the recent cases remain unsolved mysteries.
