Youths from across the country will benefit from a workshop on gender based violence through edutainment. The three-day workshop which opened today, is part of a project that started this year is currently underway at the Carifesta Sports Complex on Carifesta Avenue. Youths from various regions are participating in the sessions.
According to coordinator of the domestic violence policy unit, Abbas Mancey, who is also one of the facilitators, the workshop will not only be beneficial to those directly involved but also the youths within their communities.
He says the initiative comes at a crucial time as there seems to be a rise in violence, especially domestic violence in Guyana. According to Mancey, the facilitators and coordinators of the workshop in their planning tried to target the rural communities of Guyana to educate persons within those communities. This being one of their main objectives, participants were drawn from regions 4, 6 and 10 and range from ages 16 to 25.
Several organizations including the youth friendly spaces, comforting hearts and artist in direct support, helped to make the workshop possible.
