Charges likely against Policeman implicated in the shooting of West Demerara student
The policeman fingered in the shooting death of 16 year old school boy Kelvin Fraser is expected to face charges as early as Wednesday morning. Reports indicate that the investigators have just about completed their probe and charges have been recommended. A police source said a murder charge is likely but a manslaughter charge could be the other option. Family members are convinced that the young man was murdered and they are hoping for the policeman to be charged with the murder of the young Patentia secondary school student.
The Boy’s grandfather, an ex policeman said witnessing the post mortem proved to him that his grandson was indeed murdered and there was no scuffle between him and the policeman. The man said the shot gun was clearly pressed against the young man’s body and the shot fired, shattering a number of his ribs and damaging his lungs. He said he wants justice for the death of his beloved grandson and he was not prepared to have it any other way.
Rights Activists Mark Benschop and Freddie Kisssoon are both calling for the policeman responsible for the young man’s death to face the full force of the law.
Home affairs minister Clement Rohee has fired off at the policeman responsible for the young man’s death. He told NCN that the policeman behaved in an aggressive manner and clearly demonstrated a lack of judgment.
