Palm Reading Pandit on Police Radar
May 4, 2010-A religious man who claims that he can predict the present past and future may not be able to predict what may happen in the court system in Guyana. Police are moving to arrest the man this evening. The man has been collecting large sums of money for various “readings”, and for fortune telling and palmistry.
There have been several advertisements in Guyanese newspapers that the payment is being requested before the religious “event”. Capitol news was told that the payment is a consultation fee that is being paid to the pandit. The ads claim that the astrologer can deal with several matters including family, husband and wife relationships, children problems and sexual problems. The newspaper advertisements direct persons to Mandirs on the East Coast of Demerara. The ads listed phone numbers to call to arrange to see the astrologer
As this newscast first reported under the laws of Guyana anyone who by any occult or assumption of supernatural power or knowledge obtains money from another or pretends to restore another to health or to cause or divert affection with or without charging a fee shall be guilty of an offence. Fortune telling and palmistry are also considered offences.
In the past when particularly Christian Religious persons made claims amounting to “faith healings” the administration sent out advisories.
Capitol News understands that this afternoon the Administration sent out the Police to Pursue the Pandit.
