University of Guyana Students To Stage A Protest
For years now, the students of the University of Guyana have been complaining of the intolerable conditions under which they are forced to study at the Turkeyen Campus.
This situation has now reached a stage where the students believe it is time to stop the talk and to take action.
Come tomorrow, the students will be staging a picketing exercise on the campus, demanding that steps be taken by the administration to improve the administrative and other conditions that prevail there.
UG student Society President Sherrod Duncan.
Duncan said that for far too long the voices of the students have been ignored. He said on a daily basis he would have to listen to complaints made by the students about overcrowded classrooms, the attitude of some lecturers and staff, limited resources at the Library to do research among other issues. Duncan said apart from that there needs to be some institutional changes at the University.
The UGSS president stressed the need for the University of Guyana to be on par with other universities in the region.
The students are promising to continue with their protest as long as their concerns are addressed.
