Professor Carrington and his plans for UG
Newly appointed Vice Chancellor of the University of Guyana Professor Lawrence Carrington is looking to actively pursue ways in which he can increase the University’s international standing and make its graduates more valuable in the region.
Speaking at the first press conference since his appointment Professor Carrington pointed out that the university is anxious to undertake new initiatives and this has already been evident with its collaboration with the University of the West Indies.
While adding that the University of Guyana will continue to build its capacity through soild partnerships with public and private agencies, the new Vice Chancellor said that the governance system of the University needs to change.
The issue of attracting highly qualified and competent lecturers to the University is also on the agenda.
Professor Lawrence Carrington assumed the position of Vice Chancellor in April and has had a distinguished career as university professor.
He is a national of Trinidad and Tobago and the holder of a doctorate from the University of the West Indies Mona Campus Jamaica.
