Council promises to rehabilitate Market or face the court
After several calls on the Georgetown Municipality to improve the general conditions at the Bourda Market – some renovation works have started.
According to Deputy Mayor Robert Williams, the council has taken into account the many concerns of the stall holders and is working to make the environment more conducive to business.
Williams added that he is confident that the council will be able to conclude all works by June 17th
But the stall holders are still looking to see a lot more done by the 17th of this month. Some of them have even withheld their stall rents for the council to fulfill its commitment to the rehabilitation works. The vendors said if their needs have not been met, they will go ahead with taking legal action against the council.
The council said it is still unable to do any major rehabilitation works on the market because of its limited financial resources.
