The Red Thread to speed up the sexual offences act

The Red Thread organization is continuing with its protest action outside the office of the president, calling on the government to speed up the sexual offences act to save the country’s children from increasing acts of sexual violence.

At the swear in ceremony of fifteen commissioners to the rights of the child commission last week, President Bharrat Jagdeo described the ongoing protest by Red Thread and its partners as cheap since the protestors knew that the government had to take care of a busy parliamentary agenda which included crucial security legislation.

This group believes is an attempt to diminish what they are calling for.

Karen DeSouza Red Thread Coordinator added that the   protestors will not give up until the public and members of the civil society pay some attention to the horrors of violence in the country.

The red thread organization has teamed up with the concerned citizens group and Help and Shelter to stage the protest.
