Rekindling the friendliness within the trade union movement within the country was the trust under which messages were delivered by trade union leaders at this year’s Guyana Trades Union Congress May Day rally.
Workers and trade union leaders who assembled at the Critchlow Labour College for the traditional rally have called in unison for better working conditions, increased wages and salaries and more job employment among the labor force.
In his feature address, trade unionist of Guyana Dr. Aubrey Armstrong said despite all the political upheaval and economic crisis in the country, the unions have to start thinking in a progressive way.
Meanwhile President of the Guyana Trades Union Congress Gillian Burton in her address pointed to the situation under which workers work- a situation which she believes give reason to continue the fight.
And general secretary of the Caribbean Congress of Labour Lincoln Lewis on this occasion noted that workers in the region must not only be willing to march in solidarity but take action to change the course of events in the country.
