Those frequent power outages which consumers have been experiencing within recent times may soon be over, the utility company is now saying that it is working to improve the electricity supply countrywide.
Prime Minister Samuel Hinds in his remarks at the Guyana Power and Light Press Conference, pointed to some of the problems that lead to the power outages.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana Power and Light, Bharrat Dindyal also said the electricity systems are currently being upgraded to improve the services. He said some 40 million US dollar investment in the transmission of GPL, will allow for the integration of the Berbice and Demerara systems.
The utility company is also looking at introducing the hydro power system, but said some problems have been encountered with regard to the cost attached to developing the project.
The issue of theft of electricity also continues to have significant effects on the utility company’s finances.
The utility company has been complaining about technical and non-technical losses which has caused the company millions of dollars over the years.
