PPP upset with local government elections

The ruling party- the People’s Progressive Party Civic is somewhat disappointed at the way things have turned out for the Task force on local government Reform and its failure to conclude its work on time.
Speaking at a press briefing staged today at the party’s headquarters, General Secretary Donald Ramotar said the task force has done a lot of work, but believes that efforts were aborted to ensure the early staging of local government elections which is important in consolidating the democracy.
Ramoutar disclosed that even as the task force has con not concluded the work, consultations have not ended.
Just recently President Bharrat Jagdeo had expressed frustration over the delay in the work of the task force to have an early staging of the elections which was last held in 1994.
The President had expressed that he will be taking matters into his own hands with the last attempt at sorting out issues with the opposition leader.
The task force on local government reform was established some eight years ago by President Jagdeo and former leader of the Opposition Desmond Hoyte.
