Guyana to host National HIV Testing Period…youths being targeted
World AIDS day will be observed on December 1 and just before that, Guyana will host five days of national testing for HIV.
In the past, there was just one national day of testing, but the response over the years has forced the National Aids Programme secretariat to extend the national testing period. That period will begin on the 17th November and end four days later.
Programme Director at NAPS Dr. Shanti Singh said hope is that this year, more young people will make themselves available to know their status.
Though young people are always targeted, they may find themselves in the bull’s eye this year as studies have found teenage pregnancies on a sharp increase and persons having unprotected sex also on the rise. Still the message of protection and abstinence is an important one.
